A New Chapter: Behind the Scenes with Me

Why I’m pulling back the curtain for paid subscribers, starting now!

Hey everyone,

I'm writing to you from Spain, where I'm currently spending time on a blend of work, research, and some much-needed vacation time. I’m lucky enough to have friends from college who let me stay with them for an extended visit (and nearly for free). The change of scenery has given me some space to reflect on this community we've built together and where I want to take things next.

First off, I want to say thank you. When I started this newsletter, I never imagined it would grow into what it's become today. Your support, engagement, and thoughtful responses to my work mean more than you know.

I've been thinking about how to better serve those of you who have chosen to support this work as paid subscribers. Early on, I made a promise that I've kept and will continue to keep: all my important educational resources and core content will remain free and accessible to everyone. That commitment isn't changing. Education and knowledge sharing are too important to put behind barriers.

However, I also recognize that many of you have expressed interest in gaining a more personal insight into the work behind the work, the thoughts that don't make it into formal posts, and the day-to-day realities of conducting this kind of research and writing.

And on top of my everyday adventures, I get travel invites pretty often as a creator, to places like Angola, Dubai, Morocco, and Cannes. Previously, I’ve never shared much about those experiences because they haven’t always fit neatly into my usual content, but I’m realizing this might be the perfect space to bring you into that part of the journey, too.

So welcome to a new chapter: a mini-vlog series about my life as the Gen Z Historian, specifically for my paid subscribers!

A Question for You

This is new territory for me, sharing more personal, behind-the-scenes content with paid subscribers. I want to make sure I'm creating something you actually want.

What would you like to see more of in these paid subscriber-only updates?

  • More frequent personal video messages like this one?

  • Early looks at works-in-progress before they're published?

  • Q&A sessions where I respond to your questions directly?

  • Deep dives into my research process and methodology?

  • Honest conversations about the challenges of independent work?

  • Something else entirely?

Reply to this post or leave a comment. I’ll read every single one, and they will genuinely influence what I create next.

Important P.S.

If you're not yet a paid subscriber but this kind of behind-the-scenes content interests you, you can upgrade at any time. This first post of the mini-vlog series will be available to all but subsequent editions will only be for paid subscribers.

And if paid subscription isn't possible for you right now, no worries at all, all my main educational content remains free, as promised.

History Can't Hide from Kahlil Greene is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

Bonus:

Here’s a video I made during my last visit to Spain about the first “African-American” in history!
